 Want to show first X items from root album.

Is there a way for MS to display the first 5 thumbnail images from the root gallery?

Let me explain further:

You enter my gallery, and you see thumbnail images representing my photo albums. These thumbnails are selected by going into the album as an admin and selecting "highlight image" from the dropdown. I usually re-arrange the album order to reflect the current season. Right now, I have "spring" related photo albums on the first page.

I would like MS to cycle through the first X "highlighted images" of my root album. Is that possible?

PHP Formatted Code

<embed
  src="http://www.dcpages.com/gallery/minislideshow.swf"
  width="458" height="458"
  style="margin:5px"
  align="middle"
  pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
  type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
  name="minislide"
  wmode="transparent"
  allowFullscreen="true"
  allowScriptAccess="always"
  quality="high"
  flashvars="xmlUrl=http://www.dcpages.com/gallery/mediaRss.php?g2_itemId=7&limit=5&delay=5&useFull=true&showControls=false&siteInfoText=DC Pages Gallery Slide Show of Featured Albums"></embed>

what you have would work http://www.dcpages.com/gallery/mediaRss.php?g2_itemId=7%26limit=5
but those thumbs are albums and not photos in your root album.
We tend to filter albums as they don't always have a thumbnail representation.

You can remove the line that checks in mediaRss.php line~434:

PHP Formatted Code

                if (!($childItem->entityType == "GalleryAlbumItem")) {
                    $display .= getDisplay($childItem);
                }

to:
PHP Formatted Code

                $display .= getDisplay($childItem);

Sweet!

I used your embed-o-rator to see if it would work. Unfortunately is gets stuck if I try and use the full image.

The thumbnails are 170 pixels. However, the spot on the website where I want to do the slideshow is 468 pixels wide. If I don't access the full image, it looks all pixelated.

Is there any way it could drill down and get the full version of the album thumbnail?

I don't know of a way to gleam the original image from a thumb of an album.
The thumb is a separate derivative with no relation to the original image.

You could create a separate album with clones of the album thumbs(originals) just for the slideshow.
Using custom fields you can assign a unique link url to each image.

Its a bit more work to achieve your desired result, but it just may be necessary for your situation.

Once again, thanks for the quick reply!

If there is no relation between the album thumbnail image (highlighted image) and its source, how does Gallery know which image to use as the thumbnail? Weird.

Do you know if this changes in Gallery 3?

I guess you don't have to answer that one since it is a gallery issue. Thanks!

The point is that once the highlight thumb is made there is no trail back to the original. The new highlight thumb has its own id and its parent is the album not the original image.

Do you know if this changes in Gallery 3?

Sorry I don't.
